The Couple

  • Brandon and Rhiannon met in college at the University of Idaho - Go Vandals! After graduation they moved into their first apartment in Coeur d’Alene (an apartment that was a mile from the lake and at the time cost only $400!).

  • A romantic 10-day vacation in Italy, this was Brandon and Rhiannon’s first trip to Europe! After dating for nearly 7 years, Rhiannon wouldn’t say she knew it was coming, but she did get an entire new wardrobe and got up early to curl her hair a little extra every day… just in case.

  • Brandon and Rhiannon knew they’d spend the rest of their lives together, but they can’t believe the time to make it official has finally come! They can’t wait to celebrate, honeymoon, and continue to build their lives together.

How It All Began.

Once upon a time in a city far, far away, there was a beautiful princess who accompanied her prince charming on a magical night on the town. They fell madly in love and the rest is history...

The city in question, of course, was Moscow, Idaho. And the night on the town was a bar crawl ending at the Corner Club. But still, this is the beginning of our love story.

They met through acquaintances at a social event (friends at a house they called the Drunk Tank) and continued building memories through their time as Vandals. Then one night, Brandon called Rhiannon asking if she wanted to go out. Rhiannon said yes and asked him to pick her up from her current engagement (partying at a frat house). Brandon obliged and they walked towards the main city square.

Rhiannon asked Brandon if he had a preferred location for that evening (aka favorite bar). This is where Rhiannon learned that Brandon was not able to participate in a long standing cultural tradition (aka the Moscow 21 Run) due to a broken ankle on his birthday.

We'll go ahead and drop the analogy here...

Rhiannon decided that, even though it was a few months late, we'd celebrate Brandon's birthday that night and hit every bar in town. If you're at all familiar with Moscow you know that every good night ends at the Corner Club. But did you know that every good second date starts there too?

The next morning Brandon texted Rhiannon and asked if she wanted to get Bloody Mary's from the Corner Club. Partly because he needed to cure his hangover, partly because he wanted to see her again, and mostly because he forgot his debit card there the night before. Similar to their engagement in Italy, Rhiannon said yes.

Brandon and Rhiannon made their way once again to the Corner Club. Brandon ordered his Bloody Mary (side note - he once proclaimed the Corner Club's Bloody Mary as the best he ever had, telling Rhiannon that if she could make one as good or better, that he would marry her. After trying many recipes, in 2016 Rhiannon succeeded... and we're finally seeing Brandon keep his side of the bargain). Rhiannon did not (and does not) like Bloody Mary's but at the time the Club did not have mimosas. Unsure what to do, but not wanting to make Brandon drink alone, Rhiannon ordered her at-the-time usual: a Double Porn Star (a sugar free Red bull + double shot of Vodka). An unusual breakfast drink? Sure. But Brandon found this cute and the two have been inseparable ever since.

By the end of that semester the two officially started dating. It wasn't until they visited their family homes for the first time that they realized they lived 8 minutes apart their entire lives.

“We've now lived in 3 different states and 6 different apartments together. We've travelled the country and have hopes of continuing to travel the world. We work from home together, gym together, eat together, binge-watch TV together, get coffee together, shop together, dream together, and celebrate together. There's no one I'd rather go to a baseball game with, stay home eating Ben & Jerrys with, get up early to beat-the-crowds with or overall do life with than my best friend.

And I can't wait to get married.”

The Proposal.

SHE SAID YES!

Europe was a first for us both! We had 10-days, with an extremely detailed itinerary (if you know Rhiannon, you know!), to explore Venice, Florence, & Rome.

His Perspective:
I put the ring in a small, clear bag so TSA would have discretion. In Italy I kept the bag in my pocket, which was as stressful as it sounds. I wanted nothing more than to propose, be done with the responsibility, and enjoy the trip!

I was planning to do it immediately but Rhiannon was pretty jet lagged, & Venice was pretty rainy. At one point I hoped to do it on the Rialto Bridge, because of the stormy weather there was no sunset but it was still a beautiful view. I put the ring on my pinky in preparation, we just had to find someone to take our photo. Rhiannon innocently asked the oldest and most Italian guy around and I thought, ‘There’s no way I can trust this guy to take this important of a photo.’ So I decided to wait.

The next day we packed and left for Florence. We decided to go see the Leaning Tower of Pisa that evening. I was watching the weather closely and knew it was going to make for a great sunset! When we got there the Leaning Tower, and the buildings around it, were glowing gold! It was beautiful. I decided this was the place. Then a couple of Instagram girls asked us to take their photo and offered to take ours in return. Perfect. I tried to quickly take the ring out of my pocket and out of the bag as I bent down on one knee. I don’t remember much but I do remember Rhiannon telling me “you have to actually ask me” all I know is she said yes and everyone around us was clapping!

Her Perspective:
Did I know it was coming? No. Was I hoping after 6 years, that Europe might be the perfect setting? Obviously. I packed new dresses and skirts for almost every day of the trip. It was our first travel day so I thought “We’ll be on a train and we’ll be exhausted once we get there so I think I can wear leggings.” We get to Florence and see that there’s one last train to Pisa, so we drop our bags off & literally run back to catch it! I felt like we were on the Amazing Race!

We walked into the courtyard and it was breathtaking. Our first Italian sunset! Everything was gold! We spent the next twenty minutes laughing and taking the the iconic tourist pictures of us holding the tower up! These girls offered to take our photo and I was pretty excited because we were the only ones in front of the tower (amazing, for such a tourist spot!).

I caught Brandon pulling a ring out of his pocket, I turned to the girls taking our photo & yelled “You have to record this!” They did so good! It’s funny because you can see Brandon reaching for my right hand & me giving him my left. I honestly don’t remember much except saying ‘yes’ like 6 times in a row & then giving him a big kiss!

We walked towards the girls to get my phone back and they were crying too, they gave Brandon a little push and said “That was so beautiful, but you have to warn us!!” We kept our engagement just between us that evening and celebrated with a fancy Italian dinner and shots of lemoncello! It felt so surreal.
